There has been a recent change to the construction industry that everyone must know about. As it turns out, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme has retired the Construction Related Occupation Card. What this means for holders is that any cards issued since 1st October 2015 became void on 30th September of this year. Those presented before this date shall remain valid until their expiry date, but owners have to take further steps to get their current cards replaced prior to their expiration.

This card’s termination influences over 230,000 CRO holders. In a multitude of instances, the owners shall need to sign up for newly created or currently existing qualifications. For other cases, card carriers will be asked to shift over to one of those CSCS’s Partner Card Schemes that are more fitting for their circumstances. For individuals who have an occupation unrelated to construction, or don’t have any appropriate qualification options to fall back on, another CSCS card won’t be given to them.

To find out what they must do, cardholders can enter their profession into the card finder and follow the directives. Should these people fail to take the necessary steps, they won’t be able to obtain another card.

The CRO card withdrawal is viewed as a practical way of attaining the Construction Leadership Council’s demand of certifying that nationally acknowledged qualifications are available for everyone in a construction related role.

At PIP Services, our SSSTS qualification is one of those that is recognised, and covers topics that include control of subcontractors, the Health and Safety at Work Act, and specific site issues. After successfully finishing the course, you’ll be presented with a CITB Safety Plus certificate, and be given the chance to move onto the SMSTS course if you want to.

If there are details that you’d like us to go over with you, or you have any questions about the withdrawal of the CRO card, please let us know.
