Our Site management safety training scheme (SMSTS) is a five-day course designed for site managers, or aspiring site managers. It is designed for those with responsibility for managing, monitoring, implementing and reporting in a construction environment.

Our course covers relevant health, safety and environmental legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.

At the end of the course, you will have an understanding of:

  • Implementing all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work
  • Implementing new guidance and industry best practice
  • Stating your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment
Progression

A natural progression from this course would be an NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management or NVQ Level 6 in Construction Contracting Operations Management course

Important stuff

There are no formal entry requirements, however, you should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a site manager. Previous health and safety knowledge is recommended. Those without previous health and safety management experience are recommended to sit two-day SSSTS course. You must be competent in written and spoken English necessary for operating efficiently at site management level

For our online course you will also need access to a computer/ laptop and must have the capabilities to access a Zoom account with a stable Internet connection

The SMSTS Course pass rate is 81% (26 out of 32) the assessment will be by an end of course examination. You must complete all four core exercises, pass a trainer review and complete the exam to successfully achieve this course

If you fail the exam depending on the mark it can be re-taken within 90 days - If you completed all four core exercises, pass the trainer review but fail the final exam, you may re-sit the exam (depending on your mark). If a you score less than 69% in the exam, you must attend the full course again, before re-sitting the exam

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate; otherwise, the full course will need to be retaken.
