Our qualification Mental Health First Aid has been developed to allow you to become a first aider for mental health in their workplace. This means you will be able to provide basic mental health support or to be the first response to someone in need.  It’s appropriate for all working sectors and aims to develop knowledge and understanding of mental health issues.

Although the qualification will not allow you to become clinically qualified to assess, diagnose or treat mental ill health, you will have an understanding of the principles of first aid for mental health and know the basic tools to listen to individuals who require first response support for their mental health

At the end of the course, you will have an understanding of:

  • Have knowledge and understanding in relation to the principles of first aid for mental health
  • Mental ill health in self and others
  • Supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace
  • Promoting wellness culture in the workplace
  • The importance of resilience and self-care for first aiders for mental health
Progression

Natural progression from this course would be to train the trainer in Mental Health First Aid

How it Works

Our Mental Health First Aid Course is an NVQ and assessed by questioning of a completed workbook. You must demonstrate the level of knowledge described in each unit in your workbook. You are required to produce evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

Evidence can include: -assignments/projects/reports, worksheets, portfolio of evidence/record of oral and /or written questioning & candidate test papers.

This meeting will include either written questioning or oral questioning via video which will be recorded.

Important stuff

Here are no formal entry requirements: however, we recommend you are a minimum of 16 years of age

To complete this qualification, you should expect to undertake 20 hours of learning over 2 days.

Our qualification does not expire although the candidate is expected to attend one CPD (Continuing Professional Development) training event per year.
