Our Site management safety training scheme – Refresher (SMSTS-R) is a two-day course for delegates who have previously passed the full Site management safety training scheme (SMSTS) course or subsequent refresher course, and can provide proof of attendance. It aims to bring health and safety knowledge up-to-date, as well as giving a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace. The course provides an opportunity to revisit the wide range of topics from the previous five-day course

At the end of the course, you will have an understanding of:

  • Implementing all updated health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects your management role
  • Implementing new guidance and industry best practice
  • Fulfilling your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment
Progression

A natural progression from this course would be an NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management or NVQ Level 6 in Construction Contracting Operations Management course

Important stuff

Our refresher course is only for delegates who have previously passed the five-day SMSTS or subsequent refresher course and can provide proof of successful attendance. You must have passed the full SMSTS course or SMSTS Refresher within five years of the refresher course start date to be eligible. You must be competent in written and spoken English necessary for operating efficiently at site management level

For our online course you will also need access to a computer/ laptop and must have the capabilities to access a Zoom account with a stable Internet connection

The SMSTS Course pass rate is 81% (26 out of 32) the assessment will be by an end of course examination. You must complete all four core exercises, pass a trainer review and complete the exam to successfully achieve this course

If you fail the exam depending on the mark it can be re-taken within 90 days - If you completed all four core exercises, pass the trainer review but fail the final exam, you may re-sit the exam (depending on your mark). If a you score less than 69% in the exam, you must attend the full course again, before re-sitting the exam

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate; otherwise, the full course will need to be retaken.
